Yes, Gary. I have done this successfully on numerous occasions. Simply
place the PIR at or below the hight of the blades of the fan. Unless
the PIR has a "curtain" lens, it will not see the fan. The air
circulating about the room in front of the detector should not cause
problems -- UNLESS it happens to blow some object around in view of the
PIR.
Also, it is a good idea to avoid creating a direct draft on the surface
of the detector. Thie can lead to false alarms due to direct cooling of
the pyrolytic transducer (heat sensor).

I don't have any particular real live experience with this but, unless
your fan blades are warmer than the environment around them, your
infrared detectors won't pick up anything... Now if you had
microwave-only detectors, that might be different.

I have found that my ceiling fan (within 7 feet of motion sensor) will
not set it off EXCEPT when turning ot on or off. It must have to do
with changing speeds. A fun fact: We have trouble with gas logs being
left on. Gas logs will trip a motion sensor.
