I installed the trial version of HomeSeer about a year ago. After using it
for the 30 day trial, I decided not to purchase it at that time. I would
like to give the new version a try, but after uninstalling the old one and
reinstalling the new version, it still says the 30 day trial has expired and
will not start. Does anyone know how to reset the clock for the trial?

Thanks.
Mike

Yes, several of us know how, but it's a violation of their agreement to
circumvent the 30-day limitation. Homeseer is such a good product and the price
is so reasonable that it's worth it to just buy the current version. Besides,
the money they get insures they'll be around to continue providing exceptional
support.

No flame here, friend. I assume you are not really trying to cheat. But once
you've had the app for 30 days, Keware wants you to buy it to continue using it,
no matter what version you first tried out. Fair enough?

I can only "second" Robert's comments. Homeseer is a great product and is
backed by an organization that has a true commitment to the home automation
community. No matter how clever a software company is at protecting its
intellectual property, there will always be someone that will undercover one
or more methods to defeat this protection - Homeseer is no different in this
regard. Hopefully, no one will publish this "hack" as it only undermines our
access to quality software at a fair price.

Hmmmm. I guess I'll spoil it for everybody then. All software can be hacked
/ stolen. Since you let everyone in on that 5% fact like thing, I guess
nobody's stuff is safe anymore. Way to go.

Sorry, but I disagree. First, *all* software can be hacked. Second, my post
was not intended to intimidate or even to derogate, but to educate (apologies to
Spiro Agnew). I work from the assumption that by gentle persuasion one can get
most people to do what is right. Those who cannot be deterred are going to find
a way to cheat anyway.

I must not be very clever then. I know for a fact that there are existing of
possible hacks for virtually everything. Yet I'm no closer to hacking into any
commercial software than I was when I happily believed that it was all but
impossible. Then again, I don't bother trying so I'm not a good sample. :^)

Sorry, I was unclear. By "several of us" I meant several others within our
group. I don't happen to know how to hack Homeseer, nor am I interested in
finding out. I supplied some information and product (I think) to the developer
when he was working on it. He and many of the participants in the Homeseer
e-mail list are kind enough to send a lot of referral business my way so I am
strongly biased in his favor.

: them's the facts.

Well, I hope you're wrong. I would not want to cause or encourage harm to
Keware.

Mike,

Shoot a note to the folks over at Keware directly. I believe they
assisted me with a problem like this some time ago. Although honestly, I
can't imagine you would be sorry with the product. It's an awesome
package for HA.

I found myself in a similar situation a few months ago. I originally
installed
the software when I didn't really have time to look at it, then 5 or 6 weeks
later when I did have time it was too late. I emailed them explaining my
situation and asking for an extension, but they never replied.

Now I've since completely reformatted and reinstalled my PC so I'll probably
download the eval and have another crack at it (when I know I'll have time).

cheers,
-Alan
