I'm looking for recommendations for a good security console to start my X10
security system. Here are a few of my requirements:

- ability to arm/disarm from more than one console
- 5 wireless IR motion detectors
- 4 door sensors
- 3 window sensors
- telephone interface to dial out

I know that there are a bunch of systems out there, but some of them seem a
little hoaky. I'm interested in actual usage and results that you all have
found after installation. Thanks for any feedback!

To the best of my knowledge there is no X10 based system that meets your
stated requirements, specifically multiple consoles. Many of the popular
home systems (Caddx, Napco, DSC) do support limited X10 (one way)
Couple of key issues to think about:
1) Do I need central station monitoring
2) How much home automation do I want to do with it
3) Do I want HVAC interface
4) Do I want phone control

I highly recomend the ADEMCO Lynx System

It is a bit pricey but has a lot of functionality. It has wireless PIR and
door contacts. The unit is small, has a battery back up and an X10
Interface.

I t can run events associated with different triggers. Mine is programmed to
turn on my hall lights when I disarm it. I have a car alarm style remote
that can also trigger x10 events. It was a bit of a bear to program but it
is very reliable. It has a phone interface and can be used with central or
pager monitoring.

Take a look at it at www.ademco.com

I am only a happy customer with an old house that I didn't want to drill
holes through. I have been very happy with it's features. I also use some RF
x10 stuff that doesn't seem to interfere at all.

Good Luck

Please, be careful that Ademco's strategy is to not help end users at
all. They think that end users are a bunch of thieves and alarm systems
should only be installed, programmed and maintained by dealers. Have a
look at http://www.ademco.com/home.htm.

As a firm who has installed over 100 Lynx's, I would soundly recommend that
you stay away from that product. IMO, poor quality control. I will no
longer install the equipment.

Having the keypad, siren, modem all in the same box that can be easily
destroyed is always risky.

You can achieve the same results with a Vista 15 with a wireless receiver.
Same x-10 interface capabilities but your keypad, panel (modem) and siren
are all separately mounted which makes it harder to defeat. Very simliar
prices for both products.
