Outlook 2003 blocks <IMG SRC=""> tags inside HMTL emails (for
privacy, to block spammers from using address verifications)

It also blocks a few other things - eg:-
style="background-image:(url:http://whatever...)"

I'll pay $350 (via PayPal; other means negotiable, but strongly
discouraged) to the 1st person to find any way of devising an
email that can make a stock Outlook 2003 client "phone home"
when an email is opened. It must be automatic (no action
required by the recipient).

"phone home" means Outlook 2003 must originate, or cause to
originate, TCP or UDP traffic of any kind, on any port, to
a server (which must be specified by the sender).

Maybe there's an HTML tag that is immune to IE's
"restricted zone" (https:// could be? - TCP traffic :-) ?

Maybe there's a header which Outlook2003 will use to attempt
do something (eg: resolve the domain of an email address to
an MX record (UDP traffic) or check some kind of signature
or hash in a header? It's got built-in junk-mail filtering
for example - does it look anything up when running its
filters?

Maybe there's a protocol that it doesn't block?
telnet:// gopher:// mshtml:// ?????://

Maybe there's a MIME type that it parses automatically?
(the new rights-managed features have got something to do
with key servers I gather)

Maybe you've got a better idea than my lame suggestions?!
If you're right, it's worth $350...

Check this thread before starting - if I've posted a message
saying it's done, the cash has been paid out already :-(

This is not related to bulk emailling, viruses, hacks,
privacy invasions, and does not violate any known laws
anywhere in the world, so if you're feeling like posting
a flame, don't bother - I won't respond, nor will I read
past the first mention of abuse, and I encourage others
to follow suit...

Here is how to contact me if you need, except I have
typed the first part in backwards to fend off spambots:
tnemegan...@yahoo.com

All *constructive* questions, comments, hints, pointers,
etc are welcomed - reply to group or above!

Good luck, and if you sort it out - thanks in advance!!!

Hmm... then what IS it related to? 'cos off-hand, I can't
think of any reason for you wanting to do this other than
the ones you've ruled out above.

Your choice whether you want to explain... but I suggest
that if you DON'T, then it's quite likely you won't get any
other responses; nobody's gonna help you if they think
you're a filthy spam-merchant - and, quite frankly, that's
the way it appears at the moment, despite your protestations
to the contrary.

Nope. Aint nothin to do with any kind of spam. I might be
too lazy to do my own hackin, but I'm not into telling big
fat lies on usenet.

On the subject - no spammer's going to want to do this anyhow,
since you've got to maintain a receiving server, which is going to
get them hunted down and shot PDQ. not to mention, there's
bugger-all point of doing it anyhow - what spammer gives a shit
about knowing if a O2K3 users opened his email? O2K3
accounts for 0.01% or less of email clients anyhow...

Looks like I get to keep my $350 tho - nobody seems
interested...

I work for a casino as the Director of Information, we get hit allot
and I battle to clear my network of that crap. $350.00 is not enough
to piss-off people that have a legitimate business or network. Thats
funny to me that there are people that will induce this Spam crap. I
do not know what your intentions are BUT sound like you&#8217;re a
SPAM merchant to me.

A) You demonstrate utter lack of morality by your job choice; even
traffic cops would not stoop as low as to work for a casino.
Open your eyes moron - why do you *think* you're getting targeted?

B) You further demonstrate your lack of morality by your immediate
assumption that everyone else is just like you - a lying scumbag: well
guess what? Bzz - you're wrong (but you're used to that). Like I
already said more than once - it's nothing to do with spam, and if
you had a brain, you're notice it would be pointless to a spammer
anyhow.

Either your boss is more stupid than you, or you're not a hacker.
I pick the 2nd one, since most hackers have significantly more
morality and truckloads more upfron honesty than you.

Go check out the destroyed lives of the patrons of your establishment.
Not all of society understands probability and statistics, which does
not give you the right to plunder their quality of life.

... oh yeah... and why not tell us which casino? I'll print out
this thread and mail it to your security division.

you're a chook.

Hmm. Surfing alt.2600 from work I see:-

Why am I not surprised to discover that your "casino" is actually
just a friggin web page, with "under construction" on the home
page and no working links.

I'm sorry I misunderstood you when you said "we get hit allot",
I didn't realize you were referring to getting your nose smashed
regularly.

Try telling the truth a bit more - it'll save you a fortune in plastic
surgery.

Isn't it lovely how google usenet archives last forever.

Enjoy your last week of work :-)

Well, you're someone who has obviously never done any reading into
ethics. It's pretty funny how you don't even understand how to talk
about morals correctly.

Here's a hint, though: everyone has moral obligations. Think on that
for a second, and try not to make yourself look too stupid.

Further, what's wrong with traffic cops? I prefer them to riot cops any
day.

So, I guess you blame Jack Daniels for alcoholism and Ruger for gun
murders, yes? And it's Lockheed Martin's fault that people die in war,
but never your fault.

Grow up, honey.

Hi

The morality by your job choice is that you get money and at the end
of the day that is the end result. THe statistics are that the casino
will win most of the people money the longer they are in the place but
the people are free to leave the place

Idiot!

Isn't it lame how some folks grow 25lbs balls on the net? In real life
you'd stfu or get your @ss handed to you. You offer a contract and
then threaten people that post comments you don't like. l33t3.
