I don't know how to create a new post.

My daughter's computer was hacked and the home page
now displays the www.hackers.com.
I can't change the default page for her browser.

Can someone help?

On another note to the computer specialist, her
computer has problem with internet access after
5 min of surfing. If she deletes her 'downloaded
pages' each time, it will last a little longer.
But what is the root problem?

Grace,

This should be easy. What browser are you using? If it is IE6 then try this:

Tools, Internet Options, General

Now enter the web page address of your best site.

Hope this helps.

If her computer was realy hacked, (changing the default page in the
browser doesn't mean this, many legal web pages do this too), i asume
you are running windows, you are probably running in background some
sort of trojan, backdoor,
verify the strt-up pplications of the system,
the "Start->Programs->Start Up" folder in the start menu for suspect
files
the win.ini file (Start->Run win.ini =>should bring it to you) for
suspect
"run= [wierd or nice text ...]" lines,
the system.ini for anything after "Explorer.exe", in the "shell="
line
Check the registry too, running regedit and going in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
Look for strange apps.

Most antiviruses could resolve this kind of problem, and if you can
not solve it in any way you should try reinstalling windows.

I hate to say this but just because the homepage was changed doesn't
mean that you were hacked. I would just change the webpage back to
defualt and move on in life. If your daughter was really hacked you
wouldn't of known. Websites these days have scripts built in that will
give you a prompt to change your homepage. She most likly went ot one
of these and didn't know what she was doing. My best of luck to you
and your daughter but I wouldn't worry about a thing.
