I'm going to upgrade our SMTP-gateway from r5 to 6.5.
Anyone know of any pitfalls and loopholes to avoid.

I know that it's not best practices. But I have (too) many issues with SMTP
that blacklists (hopefully) will solve.

i would backup following files

names.nsf
notes.ini
all the mailboxes
rename log file to logdate.nsf - a new one will be created once you
start up Domino

If the SMTP server is not the Administration server, when prompted to
upgrade Domino directory say no.

Watch out for creating an open relay.

Changes to the "default" configurations in R6 after upgrading to R5 can make
this happen.

Hi Renè, hi all,
I have an SMTP server running on Domino 6.5.1 with SMSDOM 4.0 landed on an
HP LH 3000 with 512MB Ram and it does work fine....
Actually I didn' upgrade but just build the server on a new machine, so I
don't hve any advices to give.
Good luck!
