Lotus Announces New Domino Enterprise Integration Capabilities
Domino Enterprise Connection Services and New Classes Advance the
Domino
Web Application Server

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 15, 1998 -- Lotus Development Corp. today

advanced the Lotus Domino Web application server by announcing important

new enterprise integration capabilities that tightly interconnect Domino

Web applications with relational databases, transaction systems and ERP

applications.

The new components announced today include:

Domino Enterprise Connection Services (DECS) - a new forms-based
technology in Domino that provides the capability to integrate live
data from enterprise systems natively into Domino applications;
New Domino classes - a consistent programmatic interface to
enterprise
systems accessed through applications written in LotusScript or
Java
languages;
Domino Connectors - modules which provide native connectivity to
external sources either through the forms-based development tool in
DECS, or through the new Domino classes using LotusScript or Java
languages. In addition, the Domino Connector Toolkit will provide
developers with tools and information to build additional Domino
Connectors.

The new Domino enterprise integration components enhance the
Domino

Web application server by adding to its rich set of services and

application model, allowing developers to create applications that

seamlessly integrate Domino workflow and collaboration processes with

enterprise data.

"Our new enterprise integration capabilities provide a natural

evolution from Lotus' existing offerings, which have given our customers

the ability to integrate Domino with enterprise systems," said Eileen

Rudden, senior vice president of Lotus' Communications Products
Division.

"This new, more strategic approach makes it easier for businesses to

leverage the power of Domino as a Web application server in order to

securely integrate their enterprise applications and data into their

front-end business processes."

These new components expand and enhance the current set of
enterprise

integration offerings, which includes Lotus NotesPump and existing

LotusScript object classes, to connect Domino to SAP, IBM MQSeries and
IBM

CICS. "The new components of Lotus' enterprise integration play an

important part in advancing Domino as a Web application server through
the

more powerful and more direct integration with several different
back-end

systems," said Steve McClure, an analyst with International Data

Corporation. "This adds to the overall set of integrated application

services of Domino that enable users to build applications that tightly

link front-end business processes with back-end data."

New Components Add Unique Enterprise Integration Capabilities for
Domino

DECS provides an integrated, non-programmatic tool for connecting
Web

applications to live data from relational databases, transaction systems
or

ERP applications. These new features also offer unique performance

benefits for accessing external data through the Domino Server Extension

Manager, eliminating requirements to process scripts for back-end data

access. DECS manages persistent and pooled connections from the Domino

server to supported external data sources, providing efficient,

simultaneous access to external data from Domino applications.

Lotus will also provide new classes to programmatically connect
Domino

to additional external enterprise systems through a consistent object

model. The new classes will be available in LotusScript and Java
languages

and will offer developers a choice of development platforms and a single

object model to access a variety of external data sources from Domino

applications. Additionally, a new Domino Connector Toolkit will be made

available to Lotus Business Partners and developers to create additional

Domino Connectors. Domino Connectors are accessible via Domino
application

forms, LotusScript and Java classes presenting an efficient development

environment for Lotus Business Partners and ISVs.

To quickly enable developers to incorporate enterprise data with

Domino applications, Lotus will be providing a set of Connectors with
the

Domino server. These Connectors are modules that extend Domino

functionality with native connections to enterprise systems. Lotus has

developed connectors for DB2/UDB, Oracle, Sybase, ODBC, EDA/SQL, and
file

and text systems which are currently available as part of NotesPump.
These

connectors will be incorporated into Domino at no additional charge. In

addition, in the second half of 1998, Lotus plans to offer Domino

Connectors to other leading enterprise systems including ERP
applications

and transaction processing monitors. These connectors will be available

separately at an additional cost.

Components Extend Existing Enterprise Offerings

The new enterprise integration components announced today
complement

Lotus' NotesPump product and other data integration products from Lotus

Business Partners, such as Percussion Software's Notrix and Casahl

Technology Inc.'s Replic-Action. These products extend the live data

access capabilities of DECS by enabling high-volume data transfer and

synchronization between external data sources and Domino applications on
a

scheduled or event driven basis.

Lotus NotesPump, a data distribution server product, also
complements

the immediate, integrated data access capabilities of DECS by
transferring

and synchronizing large volumes of data between servers such as Domino
and

DB2, on an event or scheduled basis. The NotesPump server supplies

enterprise system management capabilities, including server monitoring
via

SNMP or Java management console, process log control, systems load

balancing, operations scheduling, and e-mail notification of operations
and

business application events.

"Lotus' Domino Enterprise Connection Services allows customers to
use

Domino as a front-end application through seamless integration with
their

enterprise data. These capabilities make Domino the compelling platform

for delivering Web-based applications. We believe this will
dramatically

increase the penetration of Domino and will drive the need for more

complete data integration tools like Percussion Notrix," said Barry

Reynolds, president of Percussion Software, Inc. "Our experience has
shown

that most critical applications require a mix of both real-time access
and

high volume data transfer. Products like Percussion Notrix
intelligently

handle the data mapping and data transformation, and include other
critical

features that ensure data integrity is not compromised and application

performs at the level that an end user expects."

"Lotus' Domino Enterprise Connection Services reinforces the

importance of enterprise data integration for building powerful,

business-critical collaborative applications on the groupware

infrastructure," said Dr. Harry Wong, president and CEO of Casahl

Technology, Inc. "Replic-Action complements DECS by offering a
script-free

way to query enterprise data from the Web or Notes client in real time
as

well as a scalable replication service that features data
transformations,

event triggering and stored requests. DECS and Replic-Action are a

powerful combination."

Pricing and Availability

Domino Enterprise Connection Services, new object classes and
the

DB2/UDB, Oracle, Sybase, ODBC, EDA/SQL, and file and text system
Connectors

later

this year. New premium Domino Connectors for ERP and transaction

applications are planned for shipment in the next year with pricing

announced closer to availability. The Domino server is available for an

estimated retail price of $1,795.
