UPGRADING EXISTING ATTACHMENTS FROM HUFFMAN TO LZ1 COMPRESSION |IBM
Support Portal
You configure a Lotus Domino database to use LZ1 compression and want
to convert existing attachments to this algorithm to take advantage of
its superior compression ratio. How can you upgrade the compression
algorithm for existing attachments? Enable the database property, "Use
LZ1 compression for attachments", found in Database Properties -->
Advanced (beanie) panel. Issue server console command "Set Config
DEBUG_ENABLE_LZ1_REPAIR=1", then issue server console command "LOAD

IBM LOTUS NOTES AND LOTUS INOTES 8.5.1 ON CITRIX XENAPP 4.5/5.0: A
SCALABILITY ANALYSIS | Lotus developerWorks
This white paper provides an overview and recommendations for how to
get the most from your IBM Lotus Notes 8.5.1 client on the new Citrix
XenApp 5.0 server. In particular, we show that, by tuning your
environment so that you get the most from your applications, you can
realize significant improvements in running the Notes client on
XenApp. This is true for both the standard and the basic
configurations of Lotus Notes. Moreover, the new support for Microsoft
Windows 2008 SP2 by Notes 8.5.1 together with memory improvements
means we can scale to even higher numbers than before at a much
reduced cost. Also presented are the testing environment, tuning
parameters, and the workflows that were executed to gather the
scalability data on Notes 8.5.1.

NOTES/DOMINO BEST PRACTICES: TRANSACTION LOGGING | IBM Support Portal
The following document is a draft checklist for Domino Best Practices
– Transaction Logging. The document includes references, links and
Best Practice guidelines. The Transaction Logging process captures
database changes and writes them sequentially to the transaction log.
This improves performance and ensures data integrity of databases by
committing to the transaction log first before writing to the Notes
database.

FAQ: DOMINO ATTACHMENT AND OBJECT SERVICE (DAOS) | Lotus
developerWorks
DAOS allows you to save a significant amount of space at the file
level, minimizes I/O and gives you more flexibility with your file
storage options; reducing your total cost of ownership and helping
employ green computing practices. Lotus Domino no longer needs to save
a separate and complete copy of every document attachment. Instead,
the DAOS-enabled server saves one copy of each unique attachment in an
internal repository, and then refers to the same file from multiple
documents in one or more databases on the same server. When an
attached file is large and a message containing it is broadcast to
thousands of users, creating a separate copy of the message for each
recipient could require several gigabytes of disk space. Multiple
copies of the same attachment are often also proliferated in mail
threads with multiple replies. With DAOS enabled, disk space usage is
substantially reduced.
