I am receiving e-mails from users that their ID has expired and would like
their ID's certified. The files they attached are in the format -
~~tmpid..ids and ~~tmpid.idh.

How do I do this ? When I got to - "Action, Certify Attached ID File" it
asks me for an ID file - what ID file is it ? The users ID files are on
their Local PC's in their Notes/Data directories.

I am using Notes 4.5

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

It's asking you to specify what certifier id you want to use to re-certify
the users id. You need to specify the location of the certifier id when it
asks you that. The admin 1 class may be a good resource for you. This is
a very basic Notes Admin procedure.

if you use "actions- certify attached ..." it asks you for your
certifier-id, the one you used when you created the users in the first
place, probably called "cert.id", probably at the server愀 \notes\data
directory

You need to select the certifier id with which the users were
originally certified - you will (of course) need to know the password
for this id.

You can then complete the above actions.

In addition to what feedback you have received, your organization may have
more than one certifier (cert.id). If you're in a "hierarchial"
organization, the ID may be certified under what's called an OU or an
organizational unit. If that's the case, when prompted for a certifier id
to certify the id file, point to that file and user the associated password.

Example: ABC Company uses cert.id. That stamps your id file with user
name /ABC. This is a "flat certifier."

Now add Human Resources and Finance to the picture. You may have new OU's
called "HR" and "Finance" Your ID now appears as "User Name / finance/ABC"
or "User Name /HR/ABC." These organizational certifiers should also be
located in the \Notes\Data directory or in a safe place on your network.

Hope this helps.

Do NOT store user ID's in the Name and address book. It is a MAJOR
security hole!
