I need a little bit of help troubleshooting a problem.

I have 2 domino servers (7.0.3) that have been working OK for the past year.
I also have 1 MS Exchange server that is across a wan link. Just today,
email that is destined for the exchange server is starting to pile up in
the mail.box database. The message in the log is:
Router: Failed to connect to SMTP host EXTERNALDOMAIN.COM because Remote
system no longer responding.
This started to happen on both servers. It turns out that the PIX
firewall between these 2 locations had a INSPECT ESMTP rule in it that
was messing with the protocol. Whenever I tried to telnet to the
exchange server on port 25, instead of the usual exchange header, I just
got a bunch of asterisks, and every command that I tried to enter came
back as an unrecognized command.

After turning off the INSPECT ESMTP policy on the PIX, Telneting to the
exchange server was back to normal, but the messages were still piled up
on the domino servers.

I couldn't get the domino servers to recognize that the problem was
fixed. I rebooted the entire OS that the domino server was on (Windows
2000 server) and finally it worked.

However, the other domino server is still refusing to see that it can
now communicate with the exchange server. It still replies with "Router:
Failed to connect to SMTP host EXTERNALDOMAIN.COM because Remote system
no longer responding".

I have rebooted the OS (windows 2003) of the exchange server twice, and
the domino server 3 times, but the messages still won't transfer.

Here is some SMTP debug info from the log:

03/05/2009 05:14:59 PM [0770:0005-0900] SMTPClient: Attempting to

terminated with status: 2562

I can't imagine why the connection would be successful, and then it
would just attempt to quit. Also, any ideas what status 2562 is?
