Problem:
A Domino 4.5x or Notes 4.x server is running as a Windows NT (NT) service.
When you start the
Notes Administration Client on the same NT machine on which the Notes
server is running, it
causes the Notes server console date and time format to change. The format
stays changed until
the Notes server is restarted.
For example, before the Administration Client is started, the Notes server
console displays the
date in the format DD/MM/YY. However, as soon as the Administration Client
is started on the
same machine as the server, the Notes server console displays the date in
the format
MM/DD/YY.
Solution:
This issue occurs because two different sets of NT preferences are being
used. When the Notes
server is started as an NT Service it will use the NT system default
preferences for date and time
format as specified in the following registry setting:
HKEY_USERS/DEFAULT/Control Panel/International
NOTE: The Windows Registry is central to the operation of Windows, so any
changes should be
performed with great care. As with any major configuration change, it is
highly recommended that
customers have complete backups of their computer systems before attempting
the following
procedure, in order to allow recovery from system file corruption or other
failures. If you require
instruction about backing up and modifying the Windows 95 or Windows NT
Registry, first contact
your system administrator or reference one of the third-party guides
available for advanced
Windows topics.
When the Notes Administration Client is started, the user that starts this
client must have logged
onto NT using their Windows NT Logon. This will then invoke the user's NT
preferences (For NT
3.51, this is found under Main, Control Panel, International. For NT 4.0,
this is found under Start,
Settings, Control Panel, Regional Setting). If the user's Date and Time
Settings are different from
the NT default settings, the Notes server console and LOG.NSF will start to
use the new settings
from this point on. If the Administration Client is then stopped, the Notes
server will continue to
use the user's date and time settings until the Notes server is restarted.
To work around this issue, do one of the following:
Make sure that all users of the Notes Server Administration Client use
the same
Date/Time settings in NT as the NT System Default.
OR
Do not use the Notes client on the server for administration.
This issue has been reported to Lotus Quality Engineering.
==========
In order to display dates in the desired format via the console, edit the
following line in the NT
server's Windows Registry to reflect the following:
HKEY_USERS/DEFAULT/Control Panel/International/iDate=1
This will cause dates to be displayed on the server's console in DD/MM/YY
format. Following are
all of the possible values, and their resulting date formats, for the iDate
variable:
Value of "0" = MM/DD/YY
Value of "1" = DD/MM/YY
Value of "2" = YY/MM/DD
Supporting Information:
Although initially reported and examined on Windows NT 3.51, this
information presumably applies
to Windows NT 4.0, as well.
