Computer locks up or restarts when veiwing video files

My computer locks up or restarts when I watch a video in Windows Media
Player 9 or quicktime or just about any other program that plays
video. I can't figure out what is wrong. The screen also blinks
black then to the normal picture a few times before locking up or
restarting. I have updated my grapgics card drivers. Can somebody
please help me???
