Besides the PHIGS extensions to X, are there other graphics packages that can work within X windows? I'm especially concerned about doing 3D graphics, but have an application that is 2D only.

You should contact your hardware vendor. DEC has GKS and Display PostScript packages for X.

Try to get a Starbase Device Drivers Manual from HP. We offer the sox11 driver (Starbase on X) for doing remote graphics in X. If you are thinking of local graphics in X (not over the network) all our graphics libraries do allow this (but there are a lot of other vendors).
