I would like to turn some of my raytraced images into posters that are
detailed enough to frame and hang on the wall. Does anyone have any
experience with this or know where I can get detailed information for
accomplishing this digital to real life transformation. Thanks in
advance for your help.

IRIS prints are definitely the way to go for one-shot deals and small
runs. If you're planning on making lots, you're going to have to do a
separation and web printing, which can be very expensive.

An IRIS will cost you anywhere from $35-$300, depending on the paper
and the size. You'll only usually find them at larger print places,
so you may have to ship it out. Looking at
http://www.dgiboston.com/filesetupIRIS.html, IRIS prints are 300dpi.
Hence, you have a lot of rendering to do. ;-)

A few web sites with an Iris printer (none of which I am very
familiar with, so these are not plugs):

There's a gent named Jack Campbell who's got a very good reputation
on the net. He prints big and *dirt cheap* compared to what many
national chains (ahem) charge.

I think it's http://www2.sungate.com/3dworld/index.html

He can also print on cloth etc...

One option here in the UK is that many colour copy shops, such as
Xerox, will now print directly from Jpeg or similar files - I think
they have an attachment on the big colour copiers. I would imagine
that this is nothing unusual...

Probably worth rendering at seriously high res for the best results!
