Their beta page also stuck in the past.
Is Povray dead?
Seems to be a fair bit happening in their newsgroups, should be able to
find out there.

Not dead but maybe superceded. I used povray back in DOS days when it
took 30 minutes to render a sphere which at the time you thought was
wonderful.
But there is Blender (which I think overly complicated)
http://www.blender.org/
and Bryce v.5 (try this or hunt around))

plus need to register it.

Hmm...
Christmas came and gone.
In less than 100 hours 2010 will arrive.
And PovRay?
Still nothing.
Beta status still the same. Still stuck at beta 34, which expires back
in 1st Oct 2009.
No new bug reported or squashed. No new development anywhere.
Even the newsgroup activities have dwindled.
I think it's safe to say PovRay is dead, but I'll be very happy if
someone can prove me wrong :)
BTW, Happy New Year to all !
I tried Blender, but my simple mind just can't handle it :)
Bryce, I heard that it has gone to version 6. But haven't tried it yet.
I agree with you there, overly complicated.

Unfortunately Bryce 6 is payware but Bryce 5.5 (free) is still around.
This link is working.

I got a copy in 2007 and to install you need a serial number which they
give on registration. Try the one I was given, might/might not work.
bryce 5.5 free serial (required) for installation

Once you get used to its peculiarities - eg. move the mouse from side-to-
side even if you want to move an object up-and-down - its a great 3D
rendering app.
