Hi there,
You should try F10 to shell to DOS before using ALT-TAB or anything else.
Bye.
: I start up 3DS from my window's ICON and it starts up just fine, but when
: I try to use the ALT-ESC, ALT-TAB, or ALT-ENTER to toggle back to windows
: all I get is a black screen and my terminal (gateway 2000 P90) hangs up.
: I welcome any suggestions to resolve this, or is this just a head ache that is
: not worth trying to resolve.
: Thanks in advance. CHAUGHEY
You might first check the PIF file settings. Then try to configur 3DS for a
different resolution like 640x480. You might also need to try a more generic
VGA setting or maybe VESA instead of Vibrant.

Here is the easy solution, because when it comes to video driver problems for
windows OR vibrant you could end up on a wild goose chase.
From inside 3ds, press F10 (Exit to Dos) and then press Y when asked "Exit to
DOS?" Then you can alt+tab all day. When ready to go back to 3ds, go to the
dos screen and type EXIT
That'll do it. Sure, its a workaround...but its also fool proof.

Hello Tim,
The problem is with the ATI Mach64 card drivers. I also have a
mach64 card, and cannot run 3ds (or Autocad) from within windows. I
believe there is a driver update for Acad, but maybe all drivers need to
be updated. You may want to contact ATI tech support (by email - I
forget the address) they have been VERY helpful to me in the past.
PS. If you do get this working, please let me know ... I want to do this
as well.
