ati radeon 9700 drivers under slackware

i need to install http://www2.ati.com/drivers/firegl
fglrx-glc22-4.3.0-3.2.5.i586.rpm under slackware, however, i've tried as an
rpm and it fails, so i tried converting to a tgz and using pkgtool to
install, i can execute the binaries, however it does not install correctly.
Can anyone tell me how to install the drivers correctly under slackware ?
[I have read all the documentaion numerous times]
