Plotutils 2.1.6 - data plotting and vector graphics

I am pleased to announce that version 2.1.6 of the GNU plotting utilities
is now available. This release includes a significantly enhanced version
of the GNU libplot library for vector graphics, as well as seven
command-line utilities.

The source code for the package (a 2.3 meg gzipped tar file) should now be
available at most GNU archive sites. The canonical URL is
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/pub/gnu/plotutils-2.1.6.tar.gz . However, ftp.gnu.org is
heavily overloaded and you should try other GNU archive sites first.
A list is appended at the end of this message.

Several RPM's (binary distributions for GNU/Linux systems) are also
available. The details are given on the Web page for the package,
which is http://www.gnu.org/software/plotutils/plotutils.html .

I hope you find this release useful (send bug reports to
bug-gn...@gnu.org). Besides bug fixes, the chief new features are:

1. Support for producing Illustrator file format, so that
applications that can import and edit Illustrator drawings
(`.ai' files) can import and edit drawings created by the
plotting utilities. A `-T ai' option has been added.
2. Support for the file format used by version 3.2 of the `xfig'
drawing editor, which was released over a year ago. Since
`xfig', unlike Illustrator, is free software, there should be
no difficulty upgrading from previous versions. So support
for version 3.1 of `xfig' has been dropped.
3. Support for merging graphics metafiles together, via a new
`-s' option to the `plot' utility.
4. Support for the Japanese "B5" page size, in addition to the
ANSI page sizes ("letter", etc.) and ISO page sizes ("A4", etc.)
that were already supported.
