Does the Microsoft Impressionist filter (the version they used to distribute
with Front Page) still work with PS 6.01? I remember that it does work with
PS 5, and may be the best piece of s/w MS ever wrote. I like it so much
that it figures in with my decision of whether to update to PS 6.

Thanks!

I just tried it out, and it works just fine.

Since you like this filter so much, I'm curious as to what you might
use it for (only because my imagination is challenged).

I would use it to turn a photograph into the appearance of a painting of the
Impressionist style. It has many options that let you control the final
result. Together with my 35mm camera and a high quality scan I can produce
quite fascinating results. Which is good, since I can't paint worth a
stroke otherwise. :^) If anything, it has *too* many options, but that
just means that you and I will get different results depending on how we use
it.

My copy of this filter is on a Front Page 97 CD I own (and which is the only
reason I keep this CD), though I believe it was also distributed with FP 98.
As for the current FP 2000, don't have a clue there.

I did ask MS if it's still available from them by FTP (thinking there might
be a more recent version), and the people I talked with say there is no
indication that it is available in any form anymore.

There are a couple Knowledge Base articles (Q146451 & Q146917) that list the
contents of two diskettes that relate to it, so at one time it must have
been available on floppy disc as well.

It comes with its own .hlp file, and probably only in a PC version (though I
could be wrong even about that.)

It didn't come with MS Office.
It only came with the STAND ALONE version of FrontPage.
I think it also came with Photodraw, but I don't remember when.
It's more than an .8bf file. You have to move some folders to get it
to work with PS.

Hi,

Since the impressionists are my favorite painting group, I am now in a quest to
get the filter.
I have Front Page 2000, what should I look for?

Impressionist is part of a product called Image Composer.
It was included with FrontPage 98 and FrontPage 97 (the stand alone
versions). It was not included with MS Office.
It can be installed without any registration code, etc.
I suggest you try to find someone with a copy of FrontPage 98 and
either borrow it or buy it. Since FrontPage 2000 is now out, you may
be able to buy it very cheap. The reason I suggest borrowing it is
because I don't think Microsoft is concerned about it anymore.

..........
My email addy is almost accurate. Just remove 'not'.

Has anyone compared the FP97 (which I have) and FP98 versions to determine
if they are identical?
