Was this filter ever available otherwise?

In the Spring I will be haunting the garage sales looking for old copies
of FrontPage.

Speaking of this filter, does anyone know what you need to install it properly?
I have an old FP 98 disk and found plugin file Impres_1.8bf. Moving this to
Photoshop lets me open it as a filter but there are no help files and it only
comes up in Charcoal mode, which doesn't sound right. Do I need to move some
other files with it? Trying to just get the filter off the disk without
loading FP 98.
If anyone knows what's required for full functionality let me know.
Thanks.
Bill
Then in \Plug-Ins, create a directory \Impressionist Accessories
Under \Impressionist Accessories put imprsnst.cnt, .GID, and .hlp files, and
then drag in the \Brushes, \Factory Settings, and \Paper directories and
their contents.
It is not necessary to load Front Page 9x for this. And even if you did, it
would have put this filter under its own graphic editing program, not
Photoshop.
I think the day Photoshop is no longer compatible with this filter will be
the day I stop updating.

Thanks David, this ALMOST did it, but I had to put the 'impressionist
Accessories' folder one level lower, under /plug-ins/filters to get it to work.
Thanks.

Yeah I know, that's why I ignored Crabbypants (who seems best suited for the
killfile :)

If I maintained a killfile for people like Crabbypants, my 200G hd would
have been out of space. <g>

There is no .GID file on my FrontPage 2000 install disk in
the Plug-Ins folder. I tried copying the IMGCOMP.GID
file from the Image Composer folder without success. What
am I missing here? Also tried moving everything from the
\Plug-Ins folder down a level to the \Plug-Ins\Filter folder
with no luck.
Works fine if I set the Additional Plug-Ins folder to my
Image Composer\Plug-Ins folder, but then I can't access
my "normal" alternate Plug-Ins folder without resetting it.

Oooh, oooh, Mister Cotter, Mister Cotter, I know that one!
Windows automatically creates .GID files when you open a .HLP file, which
is the old-fashioned Windows Help files from Windows 3.x days, not the new
HTML Help files that came out first with Windows 95.
The .GID file stores some internal information that the help system uses,
such as display resolution and what size window you last displayed that
help file in, and a few other inane things I can't recall at the moment.
(Haven't had to work on a Winhelp project in 2 or 3 years.)
Basically, you can ignore the .GID file. If you need one, Windows will
cheerfully generate it. In fact, the first time you open a given .HLP file
if there is no .GID file of that name you will see a "Preparing help file
for first use" message, which is the Winhelp engine's way of saying "I'm
creating a .GID file."
Don't know why you can't copy the IMGCOMP.GID file but it won't matter.
Just copy the .HLP to your hard drive and double-click it.
