Ok! Well someone else pointed out to me that the pages looked crappy in NS ydy
and i had really no idea why or how i could fix it. I think i figured out what
the problem was and i went through all of graphicsgoddess (my tutorial domain)
and fixed it, I think. If, on your perusals of my stuff, flowerpot or any of
you kind souls with NS, you see anything that looks amiss, i'd appreciate
hearing about it. My site is for YOU and so i'll do whatever i can to make it
look good for you!

(I'll be braced for your other comments, flowerpot, as you get further into
these pattern tuts. <g>)

Here we go then (sorry it's so long, but there's 3 tutorial
feedbacks!)

TV LINES

This was quick to do and no problems at all. I do wonder about the
wisdom of recommending people use the airbrush to put the pixel on the
canvas THOUGH. I don't have any brushes that are just one pixel wide
(I should get round to making some really!), even the smallest
unfuzziest square one always puts a minimum of 3-4 pixels on the
canvas. I know you say you can erase any stray ones, but I don't know
how to set my eraser on 1 pixel (perhaps this is a 5.5 option only?)
My eraser just acts like whatever paintbrush I have it set to. I found
it impossible to erase to a single pixel without selecting it with the
square marquee and then deleting.

Instead, I found it much easier to just use the pencil tool to draw
the required single, unfuzzy, pixel.

(When I re-read the above sounds terribly "attacking" and
over-critical, it's not meant to be, it's just my experience with 5.0)

BEYOND TV LINES - USING PATTERNS

Gosh, you could spend ages experimenting couldn't you?! :-)

Item 2: in PS5.0 we don't have a web colors checkbox or a box to enter
hex values so may be worthwhile adding a note to that effect.

In the bit in brackets after your *second* item 2 (oops, some
renumbering in order?!) you mention a red square inside the white area
... mine is black, I don't know why it isn't red like yours ...
perhaps a version thing too?

Rest of this was fine for me and lots of fun.

A WATERCOLOR FROM A PHOTO

This was the one I was looking forward to!

I used rather a different starting image than you, with lots of
smaller flowers rather than one large one. I found that some of the
steps didn't work for my image or I needed to blur it, or reduce the
layer's opacity. For example I used the underpainting rather than dry
brush filter, and missed off step 5 completely. I also put an extra
white layer over the top and applied Filter > Texture set to canvas
and used the Multiply blending mode to give a heavy texturised paper
effect to the image. I also whacked up the saturation of the colours.
(Image > Adjust > Hue Saturation)

I ended up with something that looked like a pastel drawing rather
than a watercolour..! Lots of fun, enjoyed doing it. The tutorial was
a great starting point and inspired me to experiment, and I know you
won't mind as you're always encouraging this. I've downloaded some
more flower images from www.arttoday.com that I think will be better
suited to turning into watercolours rather than the one I originally
chose (one of my own photographs). I'm going to try to more faithfully
follow your tutorial to get a similar effect to yours this time. One
is a single lovely blue iris that will look stunning, I think.

Here's what I did:

Wait a minute, you don't get away that easily! :-) You say right at
the beginning of the tutorial that we're going to be "adjusting levels
to brighten your picture", I don't remember seeing that in any of the
steps...? Just one more! Item 2: suggest this read "2. Use Filter ->
Sharpen -> Unsharp Mask .." ie just add "Filter".

Thanks, Janee, keep it up, I look forward to seeing your next
masterpiece.

Hey there Flowerpot!!!
I'm happy that you had such fun with these tutorials!
I went through and fixed everything. The numbering.. rofl.. why is it always
#2 that i mess up on.. and not #15?

> Gosh, you could spend ages experimenting couldn't you?! :-)

YES! That is part of what i am trying to inspire here. I want those who work
through my tutorials to be inspired into experimenting. My goal when i teach
has never been to show my students how good *I* am, but to allow them to show
themselves how good THEY are. :)

Folks, go there and look at this! You did a great job with this, flowerpot! I
love the effect. I agree that it looks perhaps more like a pastel than a
watercolor, but, here again, I want you to do YOUR art... not MINE. <chuckle>

Thank you ever so much for your thorough and thoughtful analysis of my
tutorials. Your tone is never harsh; i can read your smile through your
words. Well-intentioned criticism, that which is geared toward helping me to
make my work better, is priceless. Hey check out my new URL's! Pick your
favorite one.. they all go to the same page, with an instant-load gateway page
to all of my sites.
