I'm curious as to how some of you other, great, digital artists out
there output your work. I'm curious to see if there are new
technologies that I am not aware of yet myself.
I've been a digital artist for many years, and have discovered some
interesting ways to get high quality printouts. Of course, home
printers now are quite amazing in their quality, and are even coming
'round in terms of UV lightfastedness (but still aren't quite archival
quality).
Currently, I use a service bureau for my high quality printing needs
and get 12x18" Fuji Pictrography prints for most of my works. These
are super-high quality, continuous tone images at up to 400 DPI on
glossy photo-like paper.
I've also used IRIS inkjet prints (Giclée prints as they are often
called), which are great for printing on actual watercolor paper,
which is my preference. It uses a high speed spinning drum to print
onto various types of media, although it's expensive and needs
operators which are well versed in the technique, and in fine art
printing, color matching, etc, to get it right. Although only CMYK,
each dot's size can be controlled, so you get a virtual resolution of
something like 1800+ DPI. Also, the effect is neat due to the
absorbancy of the paper, so it almost appears as continuous tone.
Anyone else have experience on other ways to produce larger than
letter format, museum quality (or near museum quality) prints of
digital works?? Unfortunately, a good quality IRIS print on a full
sheet of watercolor paper can cost upwards of $300, including the
needed UV coatings and such. Fuji Pictrography is about $40-$50 for
the 12x18" size. A bit more reasonable, but, there may be better
possibilities I'm not aware of...
Thanks in advance for any info...
