Is there any way to put thin black borders around pictures in
Photoshop3.0? Wešve been transferring photo files into Quark, which will
put borders around a picture, but have found that pictures donšt print out
as well from Quark. Now we are trying to use graphics directly from
Photoshop and I havenšt figured out yet an easy way to put borders around
them. Any suggestions?

Increase your canvas size slightly, leaving the image in the middle.

Either
1)
add a layer below your image. Either fill the new layer with black, or
select the outline and fill it with black.

or

2)
add a layer above, select the outline, and fill it with black.

Tim,
This is very easy. Just select/all then edit/stroke and specify number
of pixels, etc. Make sure your foreground color is black.

Might pay to ensure that it's set to 'inside' too !

1) Set Background color to Black
2) Use Image -> Canvas Size
3) Add the required number of pixels to the canvas size
4) Click OK
5) Voilŕ

You can also choose Select/Select All or simply drag out an eclipse or rectangle around whatever part of the image you want to border, then choose Select/Modify.../Border...  A window will popup asking you how wide a border you would like. You can then modify it's shape (with the Smooth command) and degree of feather from the same Select toolbar menu item. Then fill it, stroke it, cut it out... whatever.

try this.  set the BACKGROUND to black, and increase the canvas size by the
pixel width you desire.  the bacground will show around the edge evenly.

Try to open a new file slightly larger than the image. Paste the image into
this new file. Use magic wand to select the background and then reverse the
selection. now you should have the image selected then go to >edit >stroke and
specify the width of the border.

hope this will help

This is far too complicated, and won't necessarily work...though I am sure it
is well intended.

Set the background to the color you want, then use Image | Canvas Size to
increase the size of the image by equal amounts all around, and the
background layer will provide the border (if you don't have a background
layer, you'll need to create a layer or fill in the space around the edges).

Here are a couple of tips with follow Anthony's suggestion.

1. Canvas changes are better than opening new file, cause it is quicker and you
don't have to deal with an extra windwo.

2. To increase canvas size, here is a practical tip: Change the percentage
(pulldown menu from either inches or pixels). I have found for the sizes I work
with that 107 H and 105 V or for a bigger boarder, go with 112 x 118.5 or 113 x
118.

3. Once you have enlarged your canvas size, set magic want to 1 pixel, anti-alias
off. Click in the new boarder area. Fill with either black or white.

I tried it, and it doesn't seem to do anything. Am I missing a step?
