I recognized that the size of my images increases after having worked on
them. For example:
- before: JPG 4.769 kB, after: JPG 12.246 kB
- before: NEF 12.491 kB, after: JPG 18.573 kB
I didn't mention this in the previous versions of PSP. Does anyone have an
explanation for this phenomenon?
Thanks a lot!

Bear in mind that a Jpeg is a compressed format that throws away Pixels .
When the image Is Opened the pixels are Re Created But not as good as the
originals Saving as jpg again will throw away pixels By A lesser or greater
amount dependent on You compression setting. Smooth areas compress better
then highly detailed areas. The recreating of pixels adds Grain like
artefacts which don't compress as easily and Sharpening Makes such artefacts
more prominent and again meaning they will not compress as well.
Nef Is a raw image format It is a form of compressed file as It contains a
Luminance levels image and data to say what colour each pixel should be.
Now It look as if the compression setting you are Using Is very low. As Jpeg
is losey there is no benefit in using it unless you want a small file size
so a TIf or PSPimage format using Lossless LZW compression Will be better.
Bewear the copresed tifs created in psp Lose Exif info If that importent to

If any editing reduces contrast in an area, more pixels may be stored
with a common value, so editing can sometimes significantly reduce the
amound of pixels. And each edit and recompression can also do this
because the process in effect reduces color contrast.
