I just got my PSP 7. My previous PSP is version 4. My question is
regarding the (very) annoying checkered background that cannot be removed or
hidden from view in PSP 7. I'm trying to edit a .tga file with mask. When
I tried to edit the mask, it showed up as red transparency on that darn
checkered background. It's very hard to see! In PSP 4 it just show as grey
shade on white background. How do I remove the checkered background or at
least change it to pure white?
File-Preferences-General-Transparency-Grid colors - choose 'none'.

You've made my day! Funny I've been searching for hours for the answer and
it turned out to be rather obvious. Didn't find it in both the manual and
the online help though.
The Transparency Preferences tab options control how Paint Shop Pro
displays the grid representing transparent backgrounds and transparent
areas of layers.
From the Grid Size drop-down box, choose a grid size. (The default
is Medium.) In the "Grid Colors" panel, choose a color scheme from
the drop-down box. The two Color boxes and the Preview box display
the new grid. To use custom colors, click inside the Color 1 and
Color 2 boxes. When the Color dialog box opens, choose a color, and
then click OK. To choose colors from the Recent Colors dialog box,
right-click inside the color boxes. The Preview box displays your
selection.
