Is it an installation problem or a bad download?

Error 1316
Usually means that an older version of Paint Shop Pro 7 was not
uninstalled properly before starting a new installation. Download
ftp://ftp.jasc.com/pub/ZapMSI.EXE.zip and run it. Then edit your
Registry as follows. (Editing the Registry can cause big problems
if you don't understand what you are doing. In such a case contact
Technical Support at 952-930-9171 or tes...@jasc.com). Delete
the Paint Shop Pro directory from you hard drive and then click
"Start", choose "Run", and type "REGEDIT" in the Open text entry
box. Click OK. When the Registry Editor opens, click Registry >
Export Registry File, choose a filename, and save the file. The
program will automatically add a REG extension on to the
specified filename when it is saved. This file can be used as
a backup. Now double click the following sequence of folders:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Software
JASC
The "JASC" entry should now be highlighted. Hit the DELETE key
and click "Yes" to confirm this deletion. Then close REGEDIT.
Bad Cabinet Error 2352
This comes from using an old version of the Microsoft Installer.
Update their Windows Installer to version 1.1 by downloading the
version for your operating system from
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/sdks/platform/wininst.asp
Error 2355
Usually the result of an incomplete download or a corrupted TEMP
directory. To fix the former, repeat the download monitoring for
interruptions. For the latter, shut down all programs, double
click MY COMPUTER, then double click on C:\, and then double
click on the WINDOWS FOLDER. Inside there click once on TEMP
and strike the delete key on your keyboard. Answer yes to any
questions. Then right click once in an empty area of the window,
select NEW > FOLDER, type in TEMP and hit ENTER. Then try to
reinstall Paint Shop Pro.
Installer disappears during an install attempt
Usually the result of insufficient space on the hard drive with
the TEMP. Free up more hard drive space and try the install
again. (Having at 500 MB of free space is a good idea.)
Uninstall prompts for a non-existent install file
Usually hitting Cancel will allow uninstall to complete. If it
doesn't contact Technical Support and obtain the Paint Shop Pro
MSI (Microsoft Installer) fix and uninstallation instructions
(952-930-9171 or tes...@jasc.com).
Uninstalling Paint Shop Pro reports an Install instead
Uninstall Paint Shop Pro 7 as follows. Click the "Start" button,
then "Settings" and "Control Panel". Double click on ADD/REMOVE
Programs. Scroll to Paint Shop Pro 7 and click once to highlight.
Click on the "ADD/REMOVE" button. A window may appear briefly
saying "Windows Installer". (On some systems this window comes
and goes so fast you don't even notice it). Then the Paint Shop
Pro 7 - Jasc Software Inc. dialog box will appear, saying
"Welcome to the installer for Paint Shop Pro 7". Click the
"NEXT" button to go to the "Program Maintenance" window where
there are three radio buttons: Modify, Repair, or Remove Program.
Select "REMOVE" and click "Next" to open the "Remove the Program"
window. Now click the "Remove" button, which starts the
uninstaller.

One thing to keep in mind here, if the user had an earlier version of
PSP also installed (i.e. v5, v6, etc), these instructions will also
wipe all of the registry settings for those versions also. Since Jasc
redid the licensing agreement to allow such copies to legally still be
loaded (for which you have my thanks BTW), you might have someone think
about changing that to deleting:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JASC\Paint Shop Pro 7
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JASC\Animation Shop 3
instead. Just a suggestion.
