I finished kindergarten a long time ago and have no urge to
return. The name calling here, the purposeless statements of
the manifestly obvious, and the complete lack of self control
look mighty like kindergarten to me. The serious questions
are few and far between and the useful answers even more
scarce. I'm getting very little of use from this group and
I don't have time for childish arguments. I have a life
full of interesting things to do, none of which would
interest you since they concern PSP. Boys and girls, you
deserve what you have made of this place. I doubt you
deserve or need me or any of my time and skills in your
quest for meaningless activity.

What can I say, Z' Man? Apparently, your PSP people haven't matured.

But then again, your favorite old gal, Porter, had a mouth on her, and
you didn't say a word about it. It sounds like you're a biased
individual.

It's about time you worked on it, rather then play in this group all
day.

See ya!

Come back soon, maybe when you update the program.

When I saw your header, I first thought, he's announcing the release
of 8, and I was so excited to open it, like a greedy kid on Christmas
morning. Imagine my dissapointment when I read it. A moderated NG, or
a community like Wet Canvas, would keep out the riffraff. I was poo
pooed for bringing this up a while back. I bet a vote now, would go a
bit differently. I'm just as fed up with the pucks as you are, Kris. I
do what's true to me, and my, aaah, hobby, and try not to let the low
lifes bother me too much. I do what I can to spread my limited
knowlege around, post some funnies, and keep truckin'.

I sure hope you don't leave. I just started coming here and I think this
forum is salvageable. I have seen numerous suggestions of putting certain
posters in a killfile. I just did that and this place looks totally
different. If only all the serious members would stop responding to the
disruptive posts they would soon leave.

There are photoshop forums all over the net. For psp there is very little,
other than this group, in quality.
If this falls apart I will seriously have to consider switching to using
photoshop. Without a good support group, much of the fun goes out of the
artwork.

Maybe jasc would consider sponsoring a moderated

If anyone wants to come over for a visit of our new group,
Digital Palette, we have a PSP specific forum, and PS, and Painter.
We mostly post and discuss images, software, and have fun doing it.
We are moderated, big time.

This is the calm before the storm. PSP8 will renew the spirit here.

Meanwhile, to present an interim serious question, I have posted a
watercolour painting at abcg. This is my very first, nay, the world's
first, watercolour painting that does not use ANY brushes or ANY
filters.

I will answer serious questions as to how I accomplished this.

One of the problems with switching to a group like Digital Palette is that
a new user who wants a quick answer may not find the forum, or may not want
to go through the registration process to get the answer.

His point is, he wasn't getting enough attention.
Z' likes to be the Star, the Big Whiz, the Head Cheese, the God of this
group.
Personally, I think it's better he left. Not good for a software company
to dominate a usenet newsgroup.
Besides, if this group can't survive without him, then that means all
the other PSP'ers aren't too bright.

Everything you say is true for me as well but if you leave you take a large
part of the meaning of this group with you. It's a dreadfully sad commentary
on the state of the Internet that the Bad Guys can drive the Good Guys away.
If Jasc will sponsor a moderated group, I think that will salvage the
situation. Thanks so much for all that you have done for us. I have printed
out and filed away so many of your posts that I could fill a large notebook.

I feel for you teachers at Lost Virtual School. What on earth are you
going to tell your students, when they ask a question, and you don't

It's easier than setting up a reader. It's taken me yrs to get Agent

Kris,

Well, I would be interested in the ones that *don't* concern PSP! <g>

Seriously, not only have I benefited in a big way from your logical and
quick responses to everyone's questions, but I have truly enjoyed your quick
wit and fun sense of humor. I've always thought that if I had a choice to
get together with my old classmates or this fun group of graphically

PSP is such a great product, that I'm sure this is one storm it can weather.

Kris,

I feel the same way you do, but man, once you apply the old killfile, the
group is suddenly on topic! I'd put off using this tactic for months, hoping
the bores would go away. I applied the filter this week and I wish I'd used
it sooner. Please stick around, I'm keen to get involved and you're
certainly someone I want to have in the group.

By the way, why doesn't Jasc set up a news server? It would prove very
useful (and easy to control).

I would think it would be in Jasc's best interest to promote a PSP
group, however it's done. Read this and react Jasc folks, we're dyin'
here.

actually they have one: news://news.jasc.com

unfortunately there are only two groups there; not related to PSP.

Kris,

I certainly understand.

May I suggest one last alternative to try before
bailing? This is one I am considering myself.

The first one is obvious -- kill file the offenders.

The second is more drastic, but appears
necessary: kill file everyone except newbies who
respond to the offenders. This will take out
some people whose wisdom I value, but it will
allow us to establish a subgroup right here
that is rather immune to the garbage that has
been injected.

(My plan is to drop newbies an e-mail explaining
what is going on, and then give them another
chance before adding them to my filters.)

I have been laying the groundwork for this option,
and doing searches by name. Not that I needed
to on the trolls who have so delighted in making
a mess here! Rather, I was exploring which *valued*
contributors I would have to add to make it work.
I was a bit surprised to find that some contributors
I value post more than twice as many messages in response to
trolls as they do to PSP issues.

I will be less effective without their ideas, but
I will be happier without seeing all their responses
to trolls.

Worth a try? I hate to lose your help.

He has kill filters set up, he's said so on several occasions. It's
people replying to the trolls that are causing the problem. It's
completely beyond me why any intelligent person would engage trolls in
conversation. If somebody did the same thing in RealLife, a person would
likely tell them to fuck off once and ignore them forever. I don't know
why that doesn't apply here.

They shouldn't have to do it. Doing it will mean extra bandwidth usage
on their servers. Somebody at Jasc would to have to take on the
additional chore of babysitting the thing. Personally, I'd rather have
all the folks at Jasc working on the next cool thing.

First option - stop considering and do it, I gave in a few months back and
killfiled a few (agin my gut feelings), but it helps a lot.

Now I'm much quicker to reach for the plonk button!

Second option - I must consider it, I'd never thought of it, but there's
one or two who do engage in long arguments with the now invisible trolls; I
think I could manage without them.

Certainly worth it to keep Kris and some others on side

I did the same a few months ago (after putting it off) and the group instantly
improved, albeit for all the quotes from others, quoting those who I had
filtered to begin with.

Kris, I can understand how you feel, I hope you change your mind, but if you
don't, add my thanks to the others for all of the generous help you have given
us all throughout the years. It's my opinion that for every "Uni" & "Mike" out

You had become a closed group that had shut the windows to every bit of
fresh air. The children will rebel and strangers will stop knocking at your
door.

The same thing will happen in any moderated PSP group and when version 8
comes out.

I'm somewhat confused with this statement Kris made.
Is he basically saying, he's going to spend some time improving PSP,
rather than spend his time fooolishly in a newsgroup?

Or is he trying to say, if you people don't get your act together, he
just may never work on PSP?

Input appreciated.

Poor analogy. In a theatre, you
can actually miss something do

In a newsgroup, you have the
option of ignoring the distraction.

This is the difference between me and most of the participants
in this group. I'm not in a competition. I simply weigh what
is the most effective way of using my remaining time on earth
because there is no rewind button on life. If the benefits are
outweighed by the negatives I do something more productive. I
don't care who wins. I always win by being sensible. All who
descend to stupidity win only Pyrrhic and, therefore, useless

the future. When he's not using his crystal ball to predict, he throws
it at the bad participants in that new Digital Piracy newsgroup he
moderates.

Now Greg, what did your post achieve? You could have just
kicked the wall instead. I think everyone here is in a
position to make their individual estimates as to the crap
content of jbc without any guidance from you. Whatever this
estimate might turn out to be, no post of yours will either
empty crap from or add crap to jbc, so it is meaningless.
You may also want to ask yourself how the crap content of
jbc in any way influences working with PSP. Your post
wasted a piece of my life. You are hovering over the trash
bin. Should I drop you in?

Stupidity happens and you live with it like the weather.
Willful stupidity is, however, avoidable and is well worth
avoiding. If you reserve your words until a gem falls from
your lips, people have considerably more respect for you.

It does seem this whole goodbye show was put up as a hot plate for the
grateful and subservient psp'ers to dance on.

Imagine a demigod like Kris having to suck up to a foulmouth who posts
images of plastic sex dolls and writes about women in circle jerks.

The he is a she and by no means the only newcomer rebuffed because of not
complying to unwritten rules.

My advice to you is to go your own way in your use of PSP and not worry
about the people games the regulars and the Jasc employee play in this
group, nor the distractions others post as a result.

Your selfrespect is not worth sacrificing for any superior knowledge on
pixels or tooltips - there is much knowledge on the net that does not ask

No, Uni, it is you who is the plonker. You see, 'plonker' is British slang
for an idiot/moron/cretin/a stupid person - as immortalised in the
long-running UK sitcom 'Only Fools and Horses.'

You, Mike, Krustov and Triumph are the biggest plonkers currently posting.
I'm sure there are plenty more who've yet to join us, though.

Why is that funny? It's rugby terminology. When a player is yellow carded in
rugby, he's sent to the 'sin bin' for 10 minutes. He can be sent there twice
during a match, if he transgresses a third time he is red-carded and has to
leave the field.

Well, I don't follow rugby or ice hockey, and I have never heard it. I

I actually find much of the banter
quite entertaining. I believe the
Q & A & D format can co-exist,
regardless of the tangents a thread takes.
If someone wants an answer to a
question, they will get it, if they really
want it.

I've never seen a NG where
the regs are as hell bent on
*their* destruction as this one is.

"Z" is plonking everyone.
A wonderfully diplomatic move
for someone who works for Jasc.

The others are bashing each other
for responding to anyone who
they *think* is trolling.

LOL, when it's all played out,
"Z" will only see posts from
himself and those that want to
know how to "open a file".

The other regs will only see
posts from each other.

And the "players" will have
open season on the newbies.

It could be entertaining.

Now you have pointed out a problem for the people that like to filter their

those "nasty and terrible" messages. But at the same time they can't be

What a poor understanding of psychology you have. I do not
filter posts because they are "nasty and terrible" but because
they waste my time. I have no desire to be a hero. My sense
of self-worth is not conditioned by anyone's opinion of me.
It's an interesting insight into your personality that you
should think this way. I'm not interested in protecting
anyone - that's up to them. I am interested in helping
people and learning something. Do you have a purpose in
life? No, don't answer, since I won't be reading your silly
response.
