I feel like I ought to mention that a lot of my images have a 'painterly'
effect because I am a decorative painter with an art degree. I could very
easily reproduce the digital imagery with paints and I'm pretty sure that is
why the majority of my graphics look as if they are somehow touched with an
artists brush. However, I never have to clean brushes or put away paints
when I am messin' around on the pc <G>

I, too, am having tremendous fun with Painter Classic, and will also
spring for the full thing soon. Having a tablet is essential, though.
I think that it would be much more trouble than it is worth to try to
replicate PC's even limit repetoire of "natural media" effects in PSP.
How much effort would it take to get just the diffusion edges and the
wet-in-wet of the watercolor brush in PSP? I think the engineer in me
finally says, "Use the right tool for the job." Especially, when PC
can be had for $50US. (It was only $27 for one day at Egghead, but I
already had it.)
BTW - love your site, Deann. I think I may start to put up some of my
PC stuff, now that you've inspired me.
Take care,
Jo Ann

I've tried also to get good water color effects and the closest I've gotten
is the last painting in my gallery called the old truck. I have Painter 5
but don't post those paintings to my site Gallery as I'm trying to keep it
is strictly a PSP 5 site. I might at some time in the future start another
digital art site only but for now time and money are stopping me. I just got
a scanner again after the timely death of my last one and will probably do
my sketching on paper then bring it into PSP 5 for painting etc. Love the
stuff in your gallery and check your site often. g

thanks very much Joe
am considering working some fictional writing into the page and illustrating
it along the way.... so many ideas and yet so little time.
really glad you enjoy the site, I put a lot of time and effort into it to
make it worthwhile for ppl to stop by.

thanks very much for the compliments. I tend to go back and forth between
PC and PSP and always add my framing and matting in PSP along with resizing.
I thirst for inspiration, it fuels me...
am glad I inspired you!
Dr. Jo Ann,
Perhaps you or Deann could enlighten me as to what the difference is
between Painter Classic and Painter 5.5, besides the latter's Web
capabilities? Neither Metacreations' site nor reviews I've read have
been clear at all on this. I suspect that PClassic is somewhere between
Art Dabbler and P 5.5, but would be interested in a clarification.
Thanks,
Mike

That is probably right, but I don't have Art Dabbler, so I don't know,
for sure. PClassic does have natural media, so you get to paint and
draw with watercolors, oils, chalk, etc. like you do with P5.5. But,
PC is _way_ stripped down. You just don't have all the variants and
sub-methods for the brushes, you don't have that cool mosaic tile
effect, painting w/ metal or the impasto brushes. I don't think
papers work quite the same way. But you do have "tracing paper", and
I think that is phenomenal. Just what I needed.
I looked on PClassic as a "trial" of P5.5 to see if I really wanted to
go in that direction. Yes, I could have DL'd the P5 demo, but I
thought of PClassic as a "baby step" to see if I wanted to go in the
natural media direction. The answer is a resounding yes, so I'm going
to spring for P5.5, in a bit. YMMV.
I would recommend the P5 "WOW" book just for the inspiration. It is
even helpful in trying to decipher PClassic. Also, go to the
bookstore or library an pickup some stuff on techniques for
watercolors or whatever. It really helps if you understand the real
world technique to translate to the virtual reality paradigm. I just
hope that working in PClassic hasn't produce "negative training" (as
we call it in the space biz) for either P5.5 or reality. <GGG>
An interesting sidelight is that working in PClassic has made me go
out and buy a new set of pastels, etc. to take with me on an upcoming
trip. I just feel that I need to get back to a physical medium which
I always enjoyed working in as a teenager.
Cheers,

Thank you for the clarification.
