Is there software available, either as an add-on to PSP or a separate
program, that would allow me to take an existing picture and convert
it in software so that it looks like a painting?

I'm trying to convert some photos into a "Van Gogh"-type of picture
(he's my favorite), but would take any artist-type of conversion at
this point.

Anyone have any suggestions as to how to accomplish this? Other than
learning how to paint??? <grin>.

The Fantastic Machines Paint Engine plugin at:
http://home4.swipnet.se/~w-48421/
Grab Greg's filters there too! You'll only ask for them later <g>

I have a filter- Impressionist, which is a MicroSoft plugin, and I
know I lifted it off of a CD, but I forgot which one. So I'm looking
at my collection of a few hundred CD's and wondering where it was,
originally.

Maybe someone else can refresh my memory on this one. It's a good
filter for applying artistic effects, chalk, ink, palette knife, oils,
dry brush, craqileur, many more.

Could it be this one: No download but an on-line java application by
the author Paul Haeberli who claims Adobe used it in their first
version of PhotoShop.

Ron, you likely got if off of a version of FrontPage. "Impressionist" is a
filter for Image Composer.

From MS Image Composer, maybe? I had it once with a demo version, but
it timed out. Not sure whether it timed out by itself, or because I
was pointing to it in the Image Composer folder.

Can you give me the file name of that filter?

Hi,
If you have IrfanView, under IMAGE is an effect called OIL PAINT. If you go
into SETUP you can adjust the degree of the change to your pic. This might
work. :)

Other than the previously cited Paint Engine and Impressionist filters, there
is also a nifty standalone program called Professor Franklin's Instant Photo
Artist... It's basically a "coloring book" program that takes an image,
converts it to a faint line drawing, which you then "color in" using a variety
of preset styles.... What is nice is that it allows for control of the
placement/size/color of individual "brush strokes"...... something in between
the one-size fits all execution of the plugins and the evil and confounding
Painter Classic. ;)

On Mon, 07 Feb 2000 03:07:06 GMT, ot...@hotmail.com Stated this:

That's it! Image Composer! Although it was an earlier plugin that MS
somehow acquired.

I found a version of it at
http://www.library.gr/tools/photo/impressionist/

But this one doesn't have the effects in the Factory Settings
directory. It only has the Charcoal effect, which really cripples it.

Yes, it is, and is part of Front Page now. At one time, Image
Composer was a free program from MS. There was also a time when MS
was giving away the beta version of Image Composer and many snagged
the Impressionist filter then. (The beta version timed out, but the
filters didn't.)

Thanks for jogging the memory!

I have used this program but get very frustrated with trying to get
adequate detail. When I use the smaller brushes, they leave a round
footprint that I don't like. Do you have any suggestions for that?
