What that means is putting the file FMACHINES.INI in the
Windows folder. Do Start > Find > Files or Folders to
look for a file called FMACHINES.INI. Right click on
the name when it is found, select Copy, open Windows
Explorer, find your Windows directory (usually
C:\WINDOWS), right click in this folder and select
Paste. I can't answer the question about how to get
a watercolor setting.

Here's another idea for achieving a watercolor effect,
though I may have something different in mind than you.
First run Effects > Noise > Edge Preserving Smooth with
a very high setting (20 or more) on your image. Be patient,
this will take some time. Then do Layers > Duplicate and,
on the duplicate layer, run Effects > Artistic Effects >
Brush Strokes. Press the reset button to get the default
settings and then set the Opacity down to 20 (or maybe a
bit less). Press OK. Now in the Layer Palette, lower the
transparency of the brushstroke layer so that the layer
below starts to become visible (say a transparency of
around 30%). This allows you to adjust the visibility of
the brushstrokes effect. When you like what you see do
Layers > Merge All.

You might want to copy and paste the line below to your fmachine.ini
but change the "Setting86" to the next sequential number and edit the
name, watercolor3, to one that hasn't been used in your ini file. They
are not necessarily in numerical order in the list although I edit my
ini file now and then to correct that. This is as close to watercolor
I've stumbled across so far and it's still not "it" but you can see
for yourself.
Setting86=watercolor3;1,1,0,0,0,0,4294967241,127,15,2,100,124,87,47,0,2,-71,0,4294967295,2

Thanks for this. I just found that I failed to save the fmachine.ini file
when I reformatted my C:\ drive, and I lost all my custom settings,
including my version of "tiny" watercolor. I thought something was strange
the last time I used Paint Engine...isn't there something more to this???

It's not 100% original but it's close enough if you need to replace
the missing ini file.

Thank you, but I was able to get a copy of the original .ini file from an
archived zip of the plug-in that I have.
