I have purchased Adobe PageMaker Classroom in a Book 6 for Macintosh,
Advanced Adobe PageMaker CIB 6, and Adobe Photoshop CIB 4.0. Each book has
broken down within 20 pages of use: the cover has separated from the spine
of each, and one is losing its pages. I find, through PM and PS newsgroups,
that this is a common experience. This is the worst job of bookbinding I
have ever paid for, and I am appalled at the price I have been forced to
pay for a sloppily produced pile of paper. Hayden tops my list of
publishers to avoid if at all possible. I feel you owe an apology and a
refund to all who have purchased any of these books.

Larry,

I have a similar experience with the PHOTOSHOP Type Magic book I. I
actually contacted them because I us eWindows and the book states that it
is for Mac and Windows and that the CD-Rom is loaded with stock Photos,
filters, fonts and Trial Software. I found out that very little is Windows
compatible and They told me that I shoudl've looked on page 207 of the book
to see what was available.

Once bitten, twice shy. Don't buy Hayden press books period. I have never
had a problem with QUE publications and had a fantastic experience with
macMillan publishing. I had a book that was bound improperly, contacted
the author who copied my letter to the publisher and I had a new hardbound
copy in 2 weeks! That is service!

Too bad QUE doesn't print anything worth reading...

I also avoid MacBooks, due to their business reasons.

I figured out the problem. The CIB books covers are too thick.. they
don't give.

I have Type Magic 1 & 2, Effects Magic, Web Magic, Collage Techniques,
Web & New Media Pricing Guide and Creating Killer Web Sites, and all are
holding up very well.

The CIB covers are about twice as thick as the above mentioned titles,
and they peel away, instead of bending.

At least that's my theory...

You do have a really good point. I like "good" books and look after mine
with care. I don't lend my books to anyone. I've been one that has
recently posted that my Adobe books have fallen apart as well. I must
point out in my case that my PM is published not be Hayden but by Adobe
Press/Macmillan Computer Publishing but perhaps Hayden and Macmillan are
all one. I do have other Hayden books in my library and have had no
problems. I think Adobe is ultimately responsible. I also think that
they cut back on the quality of the binding for CIB because they felt
that the books would be used for a relatively short time therefore they
could cut corners.
