Where does Gimp keep it's fonts in Windows and how do I go about adding new
fonts for it to use?

Goto start\settings\control Panel and you shall find fonts. You will also see a
heap of icons. In File there is an options to add a new font. I have placed a
font I like called Iglesia and I call that up in Gimp - no trouble at all

same as the other post - all working here.
It might be a permissions issue. You need to be administrator in windows
to install fonts. *but* your local gimp folder should still work. see:
