Hi all; one more question; apologies if it's in an FAQ somewhere, I
couldn't find it.

Is there a way to join two paths into one? I tried pasting, but the
paste operation converted the new path to closed and didn't make any
attempt to join it with the old one.

So far, the only solution I've found has been to export the paths
to files, hand-edit the files, and import the results back. Not very
elegant, and had some weird artifacts.

ADVthanxANCE,

You can combine ... that is easy (use the PATHS tab on
layers/channels/paths - select one, right click and
COPY, select the other, right click and paste). That gives
you a "path" which consists of two paths.

How do you want to join them?

Select move vertices from one over those of the other
and merge them? When edge should be kept? Should the
edge be removed?

What artifacts? That would seem to be the way to go, since you
can choose where to insert the other vertices. Hmmmm ... what
is the format of the file?

Two types of vertices?

Type 1: the actual vertex
Type 2: the vertices on the ends of the bezier handles

?
The vertices seem to be in counter clockwise order.
If you don't modify the bezier handles, you may have
to adjust them after combining the paths. It seems that
adjusting the bezier handles is the hardest part.

You can now (in CVS) merge paths together using "merge visible paths".
There should also be a "merge down" function similar to that with layers
(although I'm not the one to ask about that).

Before yesterday, the only solution was to export paths to SVG, and then
import the paths again with the "merge path" option on.

Cheers,
Dave.
