I am a new Gimp user but have used Photoshop extensively. I am
desparately trying to become a convert. However I found one simple
thing that Photoshop does that seems inordinately difficult to do in
Gimp. All I want to do is draw a nice filled antialiased triangle. A
very simple matter in Photoshop. In Gimp I finally found the Gfig
tool. Is this the only way to draw triangles? Also, when I try to
paint the triangle as a selection and fill it, it is not antialiased.
Is there another way to do this? Please help a potential convert.
I would use the bezier tool to draw the boundaries of the triangle and
select it, and then use the bucket fill tool to fill it. If you double
click on any tool, you get the tool options. It appears that
antialiasing is the default option for the bezier tool, but if in your
case, it isn't, you can set it. If that is not enough, it might also
help to turn on feathering and adjust the radius to what works best for
you. In a few simple experiments, I seemed to be able to do it, but I'm
not sure exactly what you want.
I've never tried the gfig filter before, but I looked at it just now.
It would seem it might help with what you want to choose one of the soft
brushes.
I'm not sure what you want this for, but in general the gimp is not the
right tool for this sort of thing. Under Linux, there are other tools
such as xfig which do a passable job of vector graphics.
