Using GIMP 1.1.1, I read in a color .eps file, selected and
copied a rectangular region, pasted it to a new blank image,
and tried to save the new image in .eps format. This failed
and I got the following error message:

"Postscript save cannot handle images with alpha channels"

I don't know how to interpret this message. What are the
alpha channels now associated with my figure? Is there some
way to delete or avoid them so that I can save my image in
.eps format?

Thanks,

Henry

Try <Image>/Layers/Flatten Image. This joins all layers and removes the
transparency.

If it *still* doesn't work... well, it's a bug.
