Hi everyone,

I'm trying to follow the tutorial at http://www.cooljeba.com/tutorials/photoshop/water-ripple.html
but am stuck at applying the 'bas relief filter'. Is there an
equivalent one in GIMP, or can you donwload an equivalent filter?

Thanks

Taras

+ Hi Taras_96... ummm... I looked at your link, and I will
say, YES Gimp has an almost identical filter... look at
one called "Emboss" for this effect..

It seems that this effect can be achieved by using the first few steps of
that tutorial to create brush strokes (can be done in Gimp) and then using
the Gimp lighting effects plug-in:

Filters -> Light and Shadow ->Lighting Effects

Following the tutorial you would move the light source to the middle bottom
of the image using a point light (Use color of blue in Lighting settings)to
match the tutorial) . Then adjust the Material Properties on the Material
Tab and watch the preview window to adjust parameters. On the Bump Map tab
enable bump mapping. Select type (curve) and amount (Maximim Height).

Try that and see if this is what you are trying to achieve.

P.S. I just did a very quick try at it and it seems to be o.k...

I think you can use the motion blur filter in concert with the bumpmap
function to do the same thing. The motion blur is demonstrated at:

http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/graphics_tools/gimp_user_manual/en/plug-in-mblur.html

Good luck,

Jim
