Wacom tablet eraser not working

I downloaded the latest version of Gimp yesterday and tried to get my
Wacom graphics tablet working with the programme. I am running XP Pro.
The pen function works, as does the pressure sensitivity, but the
eraser function doesn't work. I like this option because it's easier
for me to turn the stylus upside down than for me to change the current
tool from paintbrush to eraser.

I have tried adding the input device in the preferences, but it doesn't
seem to be picking up the eraser bit.

Is this a fault of the software or am I missing a setting somewhere?

Thanks

The Gimp (and other raster image programs) don't recognise the erase
button as an eraser specifically - it's just another brush.

You can choose any brush - including the eraser - when it is in that
orientation. When you turn it over the state of the brush/button is
retained.

So in a round about way, what I'm saying is: On first use, you may need
to use the eraser button to select the eraser tool. After that, it will
still be there next time you need it.
