Hi all.

Has anyone gotten the TWAIN interface working under WindowsXP?
I installed GIMP 1.2.4, which works perfectly.
But when I try acquiring from a scanner, after displaying the 'select
source' window that describes the device, nothing happens.
In other words, the TWAIN interface doesn't start.
Last messages in TWAIN log are:
TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTWTRACE--CONTROL, IDENTITY, USERSELECT
TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - DSM --DsmEntryDiagExit (RC = 0, CC = 0)
TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTWTRACE--GIMP for Win32(132) to NULL:
TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTWTRACE--CONTROL, IDENTITY, OPENDS
I have no problems with iPhoto+, that runs on the same system:
TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTWTRACE--iPhoto Plus 4(138) to NULL:
TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTWTRACE--CONTROL, IDENTITY, OPENDS
TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - DSM --DsmEntryDiagExit (RC = 0, CC = 0)
...

I've searched the Web somewhat, noting several questions regarding
similar problems. But no answers.

Thanks

Hm, are you using XP Pro or Home? I have installed XP Pro on my father's
computer, gave him all the Good Tools (OOo, IrfanView, The GIMP) and didn't
bother about additional software for scanning.

He's got some HP scanner (parallel port) and it works neatly. As long as
you don't abort a scanning operation, for then IrfanView and The GIMP tell
me, that they can't find a TWAIN source. But apart from that, TWAIN works
fine.

Try with IrfanView (http://www.irfanview.com/ which is the best image
viewer available for no charge) and tell me, what you get there.

I'm using WindowsXp Home.
The scanner is a Mustek ScanExpress12000P, parallel port.
Twain drivers come from http://www.mustek.com
UI.EXE is labeled "Version 2.6.1 - Twain User Interface-SOHO Plus,Nine Edition".
I'll try Irfanview next weekend, and I'll post the results soon.
Thanks

Done.

Application Exception:
App: C:\WINDOWS\Twain_32\a4s2600\ui.exe (pid=588)
Time: 02/02/2003 @ 11:52:16.155
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

:-(
I think I need updates.
Do you know where can I find generic, reliable, and XP compatible TWAIN
drivers ?

No, sorry. I am afraid, that XP Home screws up TWAIN. Has iPhoto installed
special drivers for scanning? I think, you'll have to scane with iPhoto and
load the images ino any other programme relying on TWAIN to work.
Try to find your wa through microsoft.com, you might find something
<http://www.google.com/search?q=site:microsoft.com+driver+update+%
22xp+home%22+twain>

Good luck,
Stefan
