Hi,

I`m a new Gimp (1.0.4 from Debian potato) user, and I would like to use
some of my old png files created with Fireworks 2 for Windows.

Gimp open`s the files, but the layers are gone. Fireworks doesn`t seem to
be able to convert to the XCF file format of Gimp.

The Gimp Users FAQ, Google Search and Google Groups Search left me clueless.

Any hints ? Thanks in advance.

PNGs do not contain layers. That sounds like a proprietary Fireworks
extension. You could try and contact the manufacturer and see if they
have a conversion tool? (Win?)GIMP will read layer information of
Photoshop files (.psd), so perhaps you try and go that route.

Hi Peter,

you should be able to generate .psd (Photoshop) files from Fireworks.
This format is much better supported than the internal .xcf format of
GIMP and it does support the layers of course.

Then, GIMP will be able to import the .psd file.

This should be a way to solve your problem !

Kind regards
