Hi Everyone:

I am working on computer animation and would like to simulate the book
page turning. An example is at
http://www.netrovision.com/images/An_book.gif.

Is there a math model for this?

Thanks

You could create a triangle mesh of the page, apply a force to a vertex (or set
of vertices) and update the rest of the mesh points making sure the distances
between points remain constant. This is basically an inverse kinematics system
if I'm not mistaken... I think you'd have to do a depth first search of the
mesh vertices starting at the first vertex and updating vertices' positions
as you come to them.

Any other ideas? (I'm not very experienced w/ physically based animation, so
this probably isn't the best way to do it)

I did this once for a little thing I was doing..........................

I got a grid that was ten by ten....................scaled it out a
bit so that it was the shape of a piece of paper and then I put a skeleton
in the sheet with ten joints it it,. Putting the effector of the at the
edge of the page. Then ( in your front view) just draw a B-spline that
represents the turning of the page and path animate the effector along
it.....the page will turn...............It take some tweaking but it
worked pretty good. I scanned some pages from books and it looked
awesome..............If you need more then one page just duplicat the
whole thing and offset it.................. worked for me..............I
dunno....... hope this helps..........

Hi, we just developed a plug-in to do that. It is not released yet,
but a demo can be found at:
