Depends. What sort of animation do you want to do? Character
animation? Then AM is the only choice, it's feature set is tuned to CA.
Contact st...@hash.com for detail.
If you want to do flying logos get 3ds. :)

AM is *not* good for flying logos, and I hope it never is. :)

Well, there was the exclamation point in the Chips Ahoy commercial...
that was done with Animation Master.
I guess AM would be great for dancing logos, or logos that did
gymnastics. Bouncing rubber logos... yeah, that's the ticket.

If you want to do character animation without paying extra for Bones
get AM, as far as an all around professional package goes 3DS takes
the cake.

For character animation, AM is hands down the best choice. General 3D,
I'd still go with AM unless you're interested in shelling out bucks for
the IPASs for the necessary additions to 3DS.

AM would be good if you were planning on getting into learning spline
modeling and that side of 3D as well.

If you have the extra cash and NEED the fancy effects as well as the
bones IPASs for IK, go and get 3DS.

Good luck :)

AM does logos with character!

3D Studio is certainly more flexible. It can do a reasonable job
at character animation (with Bones Pro, of course) and has more
capability with stuff like particle systems, lens flares, etc.
While most of these are 3DS IPASes, AM doesn't even attempt stuff
like this, so it's not even an option. I've also found AM to be
buggy, while 3DS is rock solid. Don't forget to look at Lightwave,
as well -- it has a street price near $800.

Personally, I'd wait for Siggraph to see what shakes out.

Well let's not forget Crystal Topas. Has definate advantages
over 3DS in building organic models. Easier to learn and runs
for about $800 (retail) with CDROM loaded with models.

Don't forget SoftF/x v2.5 as well, especially with the U.S. educational
price being $199.95. A full demo version of SoftF/X v2.5 is available for
download on Byte by Byte's Web page at http://bytebybyte.com. Good luck
with whatever product you choose.

Best regards,
Scott
