Animated GIFs and synchronization problem

I have tried setting up several animated GIFs next to each other,
and the over-all animation depends that they are all synchronized,
i.e. start at the same time. This seemed impossible some years ago
when I last attacked this problem.
Anybody has some ideas if this is possible to achieve today, in some way ?
