Don't pay attention to the jerks who'll flame anyone for any reason just
because they can.
The problem with multiple posts of the same message is that they take up
space on the server and other people's posts will get bumped off due to
lack of space. If everyone did it, this ng would be a real mess. So now
you know.
My suggestion is to put the info on your chat room, including a brief
description, into your sig. That way every time you post a message you
will be advertising your presence and at the same time, by posting
messages with content you will establish yourself as a member of the
community for the newsgroup in which you are posting.
I've put my web address in my sig and have been getting some decent responses.
Getting people to come may take a while, too. These things need to catch on.
