Hi guys,

I have a simple problem in calculating the the contents of sigma, in following link you see that we separate sigma(n - i), but I don't know why after the separation the answer of sigma(n) is n^2 and it's not like the answer of sigma(i).

any help would really be appreciated.

summing n times the constant n necessarily leads to n*n... isn't it ?
summing the variable i which goes from 1 to n leads to the standard
n(n+1)/2 formula

In addition to what Nicolas said, the last line is incorrect and should
clearly read "= n^2 / 2 - n / 2".
