you know, i'm kind of affectionate about old DOS writing programs, and
their font and all but it doesn't seem like anyone offers it on the
web as "dos font" or something-- do they??
or maybe no one ever bothered with it. where does it exist, anyway?
(in windows)

thanks

Check out fonts called DOSscreen and Courex at
http://www.vershen.com/index.html. When you view a sample, if you're
on a dial-up be prepared to get a fresh cup of coffee and prop up your
feet for a rest, because the page loads a sample of ALL the fonts. But
at least once it loads, you can just scroll up an down to see what he
has to offer.

Microsoft has (had?) a font named "MS LineDraw" that exactly recreates the
old DOS character set. It is (was?) available from their web site ... look
for a file named

GC0651.exe

which is a self-extracting archive (ZIP) with the font and a MS "Technical
Support" document titled "Microsoft(R) Product Support Services Application
Note (Text File), GC0651: MS(R) LineDraw (TrueType[TM]) Font."

Also, look for MS "Technical Support" document Q98220. Quoted from that
document:

"...
The MS LineDraw TrueType font available with Application Note GC0651 ["MS
LineDraw (TrueType) Font"] does not support ASCII characters whose decimal
value is less than 32.

There is a shareware TrueType font called Video Terminal Screen, which is
available on CompuServe, and which supports the entire ASCII character set,
including ASCII characters whose value is less than 32, when the shareware
product is registered. The Video Terminal Screen font is available for
downloading in Library 9 of the DTPFORUM forum, in file VTS-T.ZIP.
..."

MS LineDraw has been posted to alt.binaries.fonts in the past. If you cannot
find it on the MS web site, maybe a visit to abf would be productive.

MS LineDraw is the font used in the pop-up dos window i think rather
than actual DOS mode--
But Video Terminal Screen looks just like it, thanks :)
