I am looking for a very simple, basic, public domain (free) font viewer
which will display all the glyphs in a TTF or OTF, preferably in a grid
and showing the hex value for each glyph. By that I mean the hex
(decimal would be OK, if necessary) value assigned to that position.
(I may not be using the correct terms here, but I am not adept at such
things.) For instance the position of 'A' (or whatever) in ISO Latin-15
or the Unicode position of some non-Latin glyph.

I once had a program which I found online and used for a long time, but
recently my anti-malware software flagged it as infected. (How that
might have happened I have no idea.) Again, simple and basic. I do not
need (would not use) an elaborate font manager. I am just looking for
something that can display all the glyphs in a font along with hex
values. Thanks very much.

http://fntsample.sourceforge.net/

but it's for Linux.

Thanks very much for the timely response. The small illustration
appears more or less like what I am seeking. However, I do not have
Linux or Unix. What I need has to run under Windows.

Windows has 'Charmap' built in. It will display all glyphs that have
unicode addresses. Start/Run/Charmp.

There are also some alternative utilities such as:
BabelMap
Extended Character Map
CharMapEx

I also have some old reliable utilities that newer anti-virus programs
flag as being infected. In most cases you can tell the A/V program to
permanently ignore it.

Thanks. I never paid much attention to charmap, as I always thought it
was a lot like the native Windows font viewer, which tends to show
only printable glyphs in the "lower 128." The anti-virus program just
suddenly flagged the file I had a few weeks ago after I had been using
it for about two years. It also flagged a backup copy I made a year and
a half ago, so I am supposing it may be a false positive.

If you need a font viewer for Windows that shows all the glyphs in the font
including OT alternates, FontSpace Glyphview might be something for you.
Unfortunately it is still in beta (it has been for years now) and is not
publicly available. This program is intended for free distribution from that
free fonts archive when he is ready for a public release.

Here's a screen shot http://postimage.org/image/kkr67vbv3/

Go to FontSpace and request a copy from the site owner through his contact
page. Who knows, he might send you a copy of the latest build. In case you
don't hear from him, I once saw a version of the program in a file hosting
service (http://ge.tt) but forgot the download link. You might be able to
search for that program there.

I asked permission to share my copy but I did not get a reply so I am
keeping it to myself.
