Hi, is there anyone who can suggest fonts that look passably like
Computer Modern?

I'm on OS X 10.5.6 so if the fonts recommended are part of OS X that
would be a major plus!

Many thanks in advance,

- g

My understanding is that CM is based on Monotype Modern 8A, but
I'm not sure just how helpful that will be to you. If you're
looking for a way to use these fonts in a non-TeX setting,
then, if you can make do with Unicode TrueType, Richard Kinch
has a set of CM text fonts (only, no math) available for free
at

http://www.truetex.com/

(the "um fonts"). They are in a Windows ANSI encoding, which
may be a problem with the Mac, but you can always experiment.
I suppose another possibility would be to obtain the Type1
versions from eg the Am Math Society and re-encode them
yourself.

The Latin Modern (LM) Family of Fonts[1] from GUST may be helpful to
you.

YOU'RE THE ONE. MANY, MANY, MANY THANKS.
Been looking for that font since my first thesis. I had forgotten the name.

May Odin & Zeus grant you all the wishes in the universe.
