I have a font with the text "ffildmov" towards the begining when I open it
with a hex editor. Does this mean it is a macintosh true type font ? If
not, what could it mean ?

actually 'FFIL' (Font File), is a font suitcase, containing several display fonts or several True Type fonts.

seems like one has normally to use a mac to extract to ttf etc

if not on a mac one would have to extract the appledouble format if the file came in a zip (there is a perl module) and afterwards extract from the font suitcase
