How do I get battlefield 1942 working in wine?

I am using Debian and I have installed wine version 1.1.25 from the laramesh
wine repository.

During installation, there were some problems with windows being
incorrectly stacked (eg the cdrom key window appeared underneath the
click next to continue window. However, by opening an X terminal, and
closing it again, the window became correctly focused), and I managed to
complete the installation.

However, when I try to run the game, nothing happens:

$ cd
$ wine .wine/drive_c/Program\ Files/Battlefield\ 1942/BF1942.exe
$

There does not appear to be anything in any of the system logs as far as
I can tell.
