Hi All,

I am using:

Cent OS 5
wine-0.9.50-1.el5.rf
msttcorefonts-2.0-1.noarch.rpm
installed in both/usr/share/fonts/msttcorefonts
and c:\windows\fonts (/home/wine/windows/fonts).

Most of my M$ programs only show fonts in half of the
program. In one of my programs, I can see all the fonts,
except what should show in the buttons ("ok", "cancel").
In another, I can only see the pull down fonts, but nothing
inside the boxes. And, another, I can see the fonts on the
left pane, but not the right pane. Most of the time, I can
not read the writing inside buttons, but sometimes I can.

Editorial comment: AAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

If Wine can not find what was called out by the program,
is there some way I can tell Wine just to use
an existing default font?

Can some one please tell me what I am
doing wrong?

Many thanks,
-T

You can try copying the fonts you need to ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/
fonts/ to increase the chances that a program will find the font.

I have an xp virtual machine running, so I swiped the c:\windows\font
and copied it into my wine c:\windows\fonts. Cured everything.

Thank you.

Just out of curiosity, if I had not had a legal, licensed version
of M$ Windows also running on my machine, where would I have gotten
the proper fonts to run wine?

The Microsoft Core Fonts package is free and contains the many Windows
fonts, but not all. For example, it has Arial and Verdana, but not
Tahoma.

The following page contains a list of fonts that are distributable for
free. Any windows font not on this list may require a valid license to
use them.

http://www.microsoft.com/OpenType/fonts/webcore.htm

In (K)Ubuntu you can download a package called "msttcorefonts" to
install them all at once. There's probably something similar for other
distros.

A group of M$ core fonts can also be downloaded from

http://sourceforge.net/projects/corefonts

I have looked through all of these problems and their solutions. However,
a basic question: How do you control the "Menu Fonts" in Wine. All of my
application fonts are OK or are controllable, but how do you change the
Menu fonts, i.e., the ones that say: "File", "Edit", "View", etc.

all of the suggestions here in this group seem to control the application
font usage but not the basic Window style fonts.

freeware for windows (only "as in beer") and can do that in wine.
